Straight on ’til morning

The last time I saw you,
Chris Pine was James T. Kirk.

While he was killing aliens
with the cocky panache of a hero
who knows he’s destined for great things,
you were battling demons
with increasing weariness
you didn’t let anyone see.

When the credits rolled – universe saved –
you asked what I’d do next.
The pub, perhaps,
but no, in life, now uni’s done –
I had no answer then;
some days, I’m afraid,
I still owe you one.

We didn’t hug goodbye that night.
Maybe we shook hands?
Memory, this funny thing…
yours, I carry everywhere.

Paul Wesley is Kirk now.

One day, we’ll meet at the second star to the right
and I’ll tell you all about
the adventures you’ve missed.
