Much shorter this week (and a day late) because it’s been very busy. But hooray, two blog posts within a week (sort of) and more blogging done this year than in most previous years combined. πͺπΌ
Life
The good: a sibling-in-law celebrated their 30th birthday this weekend with a festival-inspired party in a barn/field, complete with a bar serving some of the best cider I’ve ever had and ridiciously delicious fish & chips. Plus some very good DJing from their spouse. Fun fact: at five pints, I’m apparently very good at beer pong. At five and a half pints, I’m useless.
The bad: the car broke down. Thankfully, right outside our house and our trusted mobile mechanic brought it back to life without too much hassle.
The ugly: my bank account (also thanks to the holiday in April).
Entertainment
Nothing has ever made more sense to me than Hank Green’s argument for standardised grocery stores. Also, calling it the Chewey Decimal System? Genius.
For my Luxembourgish friends: the second season of Zeenewiessel is a fascinating deep dive into what happened at Caritas, the charity that collapsed last year after it was scammed out of more than 60β¬ million. That finance director sure is suspicious to me, four episodes in. Side note: I am really enjoying that Serial season one-inspired soundtrack.
I’ve finished Black Mirror season 7 andβ¦ well. Maybe Brooker just needs to step back from this for a while.

Who do we write for online? I have a vague sense of some people that read this blog because it’s a) not that many and b) I only really share the links on social media profiles that you have to request to follow. The site is indexed by search engines though, so if you look up my name there’s a decent chance you’ll stumble across this blog. Leon Paternoster wrote a good commentary on what’s happened to the social web and why having a small audience is a good thing.
What computer are you reading this on? Chances are, it’s not one of those stupid AI PCs because it turns out β and no surprise there, whatsoever β that nobody wants those. On a related note, Duolingo is now an “AI-first” company and people are not happy (I deleted it a while ago because it was not teaching me any Welsh that was even remotely useful).
We’re all just animals. Case in point: even bees like playing.
