A Prayer

Help me dear God though I’m not a believer,
the new year’s been going on for so long.
I had prayed for you to raise a bit of soulfulness
when I was still religious last year,
but you have forsaken me and have taken
what could have yielded a ray of hope.
Play this music when the lights go out,
the song that played when they were blue,
lyrics that were sung when sadness felt right.
The world was ordinary when the beer tasted bad,
and the bus still expensive when a soul died.
I just drank enough to bear up against this pain,
but anything to make it go is drunk in vain.
Let me see the world through your eyes for once,
give me a mean to understand what it’s about,
tell me why there is famine, hate and money.
